There’s days when you realize there’s more to life then sports and yesterday was one of those days. Yesterday Leader of the Official Opposition Jack Layton lost his most recent battle with cancer, he was 61.

Layton announced in late July that he would be taking a leave of absence while he fought his latest cancer battle announcing an interm leader for the NDP.

There was much speculation that his cancer was much worse then he was letting on and people figured he wouldn’t be back in September like he thought, but noone could have seen about a month later at 4:45 am he would pass away with his wife Olivia Chow and children Micheal and Sarah by his side.

Layton was effortless in his attempt to make a once 3rd party into an elite political party in Canada. In the Federal Election this May he won Official Opposition status and at one point was close in the polls to being the Prime Minister. If Layton had of had another 4 years he may have brought the NDP all the way into power.

He always appeared to care about everyone and appeared to really care about Canada and for that I salute you Jack, may you Rest in Peace.
